The Chad Prociw Memorial Trophy

Outstanding Sportsmanship

At the finish of the Waverly Open, June 25, 1978, Steve & Janice’s son Chad Prociw fell into the Cedar River. Many volunteers quickly went into action to find him. Jack Stifter put on his dive gear that was close by and found him within five minutes. We are so grateful for all that gave of their time and love. Janet Piercy, Karen Larson, Jim & Illene Weikert who stayed with us at all the hospitals, Bud Piercy for watching and taking care of our other children. And the Lord’s Grace for giving us the 36 hours to say goodbye.

We wanted the love returned to those who gave. That is our Iowa water skiing families.

Even though Chad was with us for only a short 2 years and 8 days, we want this trophy to be about family, and building sportsmanship in our youth.
